Staff

CfBT Education Trust supports each of its schools and nurseries with a dedicated team of professionals. The Langley Manor School can offer a speech and language therapist, counsellor, educational psychologist and tutoring service should the need arise. This is all part of our aim to provide a complete service.

We rely on being able to employ the right teachers, and our recruitment procedures are rigorous. Although many schools struggle to find staff, we have never found this a problem. Nor is staff retention an issue: we have a number of long-serving highly committed staff.

We have been awarded Investor in People status, reflecting our approach to people management and the opportunities we offer. Our staff find the school a good working environment, with regular training and continuing fresh challenges. We expect a lot from the staff!

The Principal, Nicholas Owlett, has a PGCE from the University of Cambridge and a Masters in Educational Management from Melbourne University. He has a wealth of school leadership experience having been Deputy Head of St. Mary's Preparatory School in Lincoln and Deputy Headmaster of The British School of Boston. in January 2010 he was awarded the National Professional Qualification for Headship by the National College for School Leadership.

In post since 2006, he has introduced several new initiatives to improve pupil learning at the school including:

  • SATs at Y2 and Y6

  • a brand new reading scheme
  • 11+ masterclasses
  • a new and improved venue for the Y6 French Trip
  • a new trip for Y4/5 to Hadrians Wall in Northumberland
  • lunchtime clubs to enrich the curriculum
  • a new trip for Upper Phase to Rome and Pompeii
  • the first ever Bucks and Berks Spelling Bee
  • eight more interactive smartboards and networked computers in every classroom
  • state of the art software for each classroom so that children can use ICT as an effective and exciting learning tool
  • more opportunities for music and art such as the annual Choral Festival and the Art Exhibition and Competition
  • more opportunities for exciting competitive sport including the recent CfBT/Arsenal Football Tournament.
  • secured visits to the school by the Mayor and local Member of Parliament
  • An electronic cataloguing system for the school library
  • a new PTA called The Friends of Langley Manor  which in their first year invested over £2000 in a new adventure playground for the children

Mr Owlett has also strengthened the home-school partnership with the new  ClarionCall email and text communication system which has been warmly welcomed by both parents and staff alike. He relaunched the school newsletter as 'The Messenger' and he has introduced events like the 'Meet the Teacher' and 'Maths Workshop' evenings for parents each September. He is proud of what the school community achieves together and, along with the rest of the staff and children, looks forward to meeting you at one of the School Open Days held throughout the year.
