Music and Drama
Breaking News: The acclaimed Hobgoblin Theatre Company will perform two shows and an acting workshop for the whole of Year 5 and Year 6 on Tuesday 20th November 2007 here at school. "Perseus and Medea" links to KS2 History unit and Ancient Greece and "Harry and the Great Exhibition" links with KS2 History unit on the Victorians. Both shows are interactive and are designed to deepen the children's knowledge and understanding of the topics. They may well even get involved as characters in the stories themselves!
Music and drama are a vital part of our curriculum and children are involved in music and drama in every year group through music lessons, creative arts workshops, assemblies, plays, performances and productions. Our belief in the power of music is captured in our ‘Music for All’ policy which ensures that all children learn a musical instrument. Children can also access private tuition in a wide range of instruments from drums to acoustic guitar. Weekly music workshops include lively singing, percussion and appreciation sessions. All children learn to play the recorder in Years 2 and 3 and are encouraged to select additional instruments to learn individually or in small groups.
There are opportunities to play in groups from duets to The Langley Manor Orchestra.
From early years upwards, we give children the chance to shine in our annual dramatic productions. All our performances are produced to the highest possible standards, with the upper phase children taking on responsibilities for front of house, lighting, scenery and costume.
All children have the opportunity to perform and act. We offer elocution lessons to encourage confidence when speaking in public.
