Literacy

Reading and writing open up a child’s whole world. We ensure that reading, comprehension and expressive writing are taught and learned thoroughly by using a combination of reading schemes backed up by a phonics-based scheme for teaching spelling and sounds.

We aim to achieve a reading age at least two years ahead of a child’s chronological age.

In 2008 we are purchasing a brand new reading scheme which the children will love. The Oxford Reading Tree will be used from September and will, we feel sure, help improve literacy throughout the school.
