Music

Music and drama are a vital part of our curriculum and children
are involved in music and drama in every year group through music
lessons, creative arts workshops, assemblies, plays, performances
and productions. Our belief in the power of music is captured in
our ‘Music for All’ policy which ensures that all children learn a
musical instrument.
Children can also access private tuition in a wide range of
instruments from drums to acoustic guitar. Weekly music workshops
include lively singing, percussion and appreciation sessions. All
children learn to play the ocarina in Years 2 and 3 and are
encouraged to select additional instruments to learn individually
or in small groups.
There are opportunities to play in groups from duets to larger
ensembles. All children have the opportunity to perform and act.
From early years upwards, we give children the chance to shine in
our annual dramatic productions. All our performances are produced
to the highest possible standards, with the Upper Phase children
taking on responsibilities for front of house, lighting, scenery
and costume.
The production in March 2011 of ‘Pinafore Pirates’ was
widely acclaimed as one of the best productions ever. Children in
Year 4 also enjoyed taking part in the Rotary Clubs schools
concert.
